I think this is Robert in 1861, but I can’t see a marriage for Henry and Isabella:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7NT-8LX

AYNSLEY, GEORGE  HENRY mmn WALSH
GRO Reference: 1846  D Quarter in TYNEMOUTH UNION  Volume 25  Page 423

AYNSLEY, SARAH  JANE mmn WALSH
GRO Reference: 1848  D Quarter in TYNEMOUTH UNION  Volume 25  Page 467

AYNSLEY, ROBERT mmn WALSH
GRO Reference: 1852  S Quarter in TYNEMOUTH  Volume 10B  Page 110

1851 has mother as Ann: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGX4-QBS

I think it may have been a second marriage:

Dec 1859 Newcastle,T 10b 139
ANSLEY Henry
CHAPMAN Isabella Hannah

I can’t see Henry in 1871. Possible death:

AYNSLEY, HENRY  44
GRO Reference: 1865  M Quarter in TYNEMOUTH  Volume 10B  Page 123

Was Ann previously married?

The only marriage I can see:

Sep 1845 South Shields 24 165
ANSLEY Henry
SPOOR/S Ann

Jamjar
Thanks again Jamjar, I had seen the 1861 census for Robert and family and noted the parents names. As the Aynsleys had married into the Frazer family and the Frazer family had married into my family name (Thompson) I was just interested to record his parents names. How far can you spread the family tree? Paul

My only query about Robert (snr) death in 1892 is that the probate the beneficiary's name was Sarah Ward and not any members of his married family.

I do believe that Sarah Ward is the Sarah Walsh, sister of Ann, shown in the 1851 census.

The 1871 as you mentioned:

I’m in Central West NSW, and have recovered from the virus, which I picked up during a grocery run to WAGGA.

You have her dying in 1882, but she is still alive in 1891 census living with father and also Hannah Frazer in Salmon Street, S/S.

I don’t have anyone dying in 1882.

The death of Robert Walsh Aynsley in 1942 would be the son, who was born in 1879

Yes, that is why his death is under his birth.

Have you got a copy of the probate? I wonder if it is a transcription error and he actually died in Brazil. From FamilySearch: Durham, Brazil, United Kingdom

I see no UK death registration for him.

Robert and Margaret’s marriage: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGV8-7WPR

Hello Jamjar,

I checked up on the probate and he died in Santos, Brazil on 6 Nov 1892, living at 1 Salmon St. South Shields. He was classified as an Engineer and the 1881 census has his occupation as a 'Sea going engineer' so obviously working on board a ship when he died (aged 40). It would be interesting to find out how he died, on board or on shore? Visions pop up of him being involved in a bar room brawl, but maybe i have been watching too many old movies!! Paul

Boo
Hello Boo, many many thanks for finding the final piece of the puzzle. yellow fever is not a nice illness and in those days certain death. I think in those days he would have been buried there (Santos) and not transported back to his hometown due to length of travel time. He left his money to a Sarah Ward (widow) totalling 676 pounds. From the information Jamjar obtained for me it looks as though Sarah Ward was the sister of his mother and in the 1871 census both Robert & his sister Sarah were living with Sarah Ward and family in South Shields after the death of their parents, so I presume she would have taken on the responsibility of looking after his 3 children after his and his wife's death (who died in 1889) as the children were only 16/13 & 10.
Once again thank you for finding the information for me, I appreciate it. Paul

Though the deaths at sea index and the death announcement below have his ships name as Henrietta H. the clip ships database has the ship name as Henriette H.
