Oswald Stephen Dippnall died Belper 1961
« on: Saturday 09 May 20 13:43 BST (UK) »
I have an uncle, my mothers brother, his name was Oswald Stephen Dippnall.  I believe he was profoundly handicapped, he died in the Belper registration district in 1961 age 9, this wasn't the family home county.  I was wandering whether there was some kind of hospital or the like in Belper.

I would send of for his death certificate, but I haven't received certificates that I sent off for in March

Thank you

Simon

Hi,

Not whitemoor, that is a new development and is not residential.

Actually in Belper was Babington Hospital, originally a worksouse but later used as treatment centre
Not sure if it was residential in 1961. There were children’s homes on Bargate Road and another on Chesterfield Road.

Belper Registration District contains many other places including Ripley. Wirksworth,  Crich etc., no may not have actually died in Belper.

Hi,

This is a connection to children’s homes in Derbyshire, which may assist

Many of the names I had forgotten, though they may not have been on existence in 1961, think that this late the 100 year closure rule may apply to the records.  Duffield and Holbrook would come under Belper Registration District.

When they open again Derbyshire Record Office is the place to ask.

I was thinking more of an institution than a home, the family were in Manchester, which makes me think it was somewhere that offered a more specialist environment, otherwise I'm sure he would of been closer to home.  I've now no family to ask, I'm probably the only person alive that knows this poor boy existed

Thank you for your help, it is most appreciated

Kind regards

Simon
