The Gay sisters what happened to them, possibly Canada?
« on: Saturday 09 May 20 14:08 BST (UK) »
I need some help finding out what happened to the Gay sisters.

George Gay and Alice (nee Short) had five children
George Stanley 1888 - 1888
Benjamin Reginald 1890 - 1959 (dies in Canada)
Kate Isabel 1891
Florence Mary Hilda 1893
Winifred Doris 1896

All births registered Chipping Sodbury district, place of birth as given on census is Bridgeyate.

In 1911 George and Benjamin, who is using his middle name, are in Wales. Alice is in Kingsdown, Bristol with Kate, Florence (using name Hilda), and Winifred (using name Doris). Kate is a nursery governess, Hilda is at home, and Doris occupation is milliner.

On ancestry I have found some passenger lists, one for a Kate Gay (this one has a middle name, transcribed as Gabel), together with a Florence Gay, a governess and shop assistant respectively, travelling to Quebec in 1912. This is where brother Benjamin/Reginald ends up.

I’ve also found a passenger list showing a George and Alice Gay, together with a Doris Gay who is a milliner, travelling to Quebec in 1913.

I’m pretty sure these are they,  could anyone tell me what became of them in Canada?

I have a possible entry for Winifred/Doris in the 1939 register, together with Alice and a couple of chaps, where they fit in I have not yet determined. So possible that these two came back home again.

Thanks
Lisa
