The surnames ANSTRUTHER and/or BURSON in Australia are almost non existant in each state.

TROVE archive newspapers in Australia are full of fictional book characters with the name ANSTRUTHER.

I suggest the man in NZ created false parents.

Randwick.—A warrant has been issued by the Central Police Bench for the arrest of a man whose surname is Billson, charged with obtaining goods and money value £1 15s., on 27 January, 1913,. . .by means of a false pretences. _ Offender is 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, dark moustache only, turning grey; dressed in a black suit (walking coat), and black hard hat.  Identical with Anstruther Billson alias Anstruther Otto Billson……..

Richard Anstruther-Burson was known as Dick Burson.  He died 7 December 1973 as the result of an accident.  If you search Papers Past (https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/) or the Gisborne Photo News (https://photonews.org.nz/gisborne) searching for Burson looking for articles referencing D, Dick, R, Richard or RA you will find numerous items as he was a handy boxer, a very capable shot, and an active member of the Orphans Club amongst others.  He was married to Ethel (dec) and had three children Betty (dec), Wilma (Billie) and Peter.
