Quinns of Tipperary
« on: Sunday 10 May 20 12:13 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have been searching for my ancestry in Ireland prior to my 4th great grand father (John Quinn) that came to Australia in 1851 on the Emperor.

I believe I have found John Quinn's baptism record (in 1811) in Carrick-on-Suir parish, Diocese of Waterford and Lismore and it has his parents as Edmundi Quinn and Catha Craw.

I haven't been able to find any other records of them. If anyone might have come across them or any advice on how to find marriage records in Ireland in the early 1800's that would be great.

Thanks,
Andrew

If they are RC than the only place to find marriage records before 1864 is in church registers, https://registers.nli.ie/ (many early 1800s registers don't survive) from 1864 onwards civil registration is free online at https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
just prove your not a robot and sign in.
John Quinn is a fairly common name so you would need his parents names or father's name at least and a townland or parish at least before looking for him in Ireland.

Thanks for that. It is a fairly common name so has been a hard one to track down.

Thanks for your advice and links!
