You can also view online on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk the marriage register entry for Michael and Ann:

Michael MCDONALD and Ann MCDONALD
1879
Ref 505/1 2
Acharacle

This will include both sets of parents' names and addresses and witness names can also help.

Hi Monica, this is way too addictive! I have downloaded the marriage cert for Ann and Michael. Ann is listed from Dalnabreac and Micheal Sheppard (or similar) Cliff, there are 2 witness' but no parents! Michael Mac D (also Dalnabreac) and Donald Mac D very hard to understand where he is listed as being from, it looks like Sangle, but it goes off the page, I think the Priest must have been having a bad day as his writing is pretty illegible! ;D anyway, just wanted to let you know I have looked at the marriage certificate, and yes all this side of the family were staunch Roman Catholics.

Thanks very much for all the info you have given me :)

Alison, the marriage entry you looked at in 1879 was it from the statutory registers or the RC registers? Marriage shows in both.

Hi Monica  ;D me again!  I have got Ann' s birth certificate, and you were correct, Mary and John are her parents (dalnabreac) After John (on ancestry) I  have Ranald MacD & Ann McVarish (I have no foundation for these folks at all!) just ancestry defaults

Michael seems to have a sister called Mary, listed as a ploughman, but I am struggling to find him past his dad(who I think is also Michael) I can't find his mother anywhere. Most of the certificates I got are from the church records, the only statutory one I could find is for my g uncle Archie, probably me looking in entirely in the wrong place of Scotland people. The records seem to be very sparse beyond Michael and Ann and I was wondering how far you had managed to go with Ann's line
All the best
Alison

Alison, did I get back to you on these last questions  ??? Just re-reading this post because of the other thread and don't think I saw this.

I have a death certificate for Ranald MacDonald. He lived to a good age as did a couple of his siblings. Enough to get into post 1855 and statutory registrations! Ann McVarish has been a problem. She died between 1851-54 so I have no detail on her parents. McVarish (like MacIsaac) morphed over time to MacDonald. Likely she had some siblings and extended family nearby but I haven't been able to identify them so far with any confidence.
