Peter Flannigan
« on: Tuesday 12 May 20 20:02 BST (UK) »
Hi All, trying to trace any information on a Peter Flannigan.  I believe he was born about 1829 in Cavan. He married a Ann Cadams about 1848....they had a girl called Mary also born in Ireland. At some point they moved to Scotland, where they had another 3 children.  As far as I know Ann's parents were a Farrell Cadams and Margaret Moore. Peters family I cannot find.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked for him on the Scottish censuses?  What were the names and birthyears/birthplaces of the 3 children born in Scotland?

When was Ann born?

If he died in Scotland anytime from 1855 onwards his parents names and mothers maiden name should be on his death cert

Hi Carol, yes I can find him on Scotlands people, and I have the information re his children.  Its the Irish side - his parents and Ann's parents that Im having difficulty finding.  Ann's parents were ( as far as I know ) Farrell Cadams and Margaret Moore.  Peter's parents I have no idea. I might just have to give up but thought I would try here as a last gasp so to speak.

Regards

Margaret

What have you found about him on SP?  Did he die in Scotland after 1855?  If so - have you downloaded his death cert?

Same for Ann

Yes he died in 1859 in a Pit Accident. Ann remarried a Patrick McAulay. Ann died in 1891 in Motherwell. Again I have no names for Peters parents.

See previous reply.  Did you download his death cert?  Did you download Ann’s death cert?

If you did download them - are any parents shown?

I am unable to decipher the writing on Peters death certificate. Ann's parents were Farrell Cadams and Margaret Moore. do not have the marriage certificate for Peter and Ann.

When were the children born in Scotland? depending on the year birth certificate may give date and place of parents' marriage.
If the eldest child was born in Ireland then it's quite likely that parents married in Ireland. Civil registration of non-Catholic marriages started 1845 (from 1864 for Catholic marriages) so if it was a Catholic ceremony then you'll need to search parish registers. However, most marriages from that period do not list the parents.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
