GRO orders for PDFs. Anyone received any recently?
« on: Tuesday 12 May 20 20:04 BST (UK) »
Hi

I realise I probably shouldn't have ordered one in April but I did.  :-[

Anyway, to manage my expectations, has anyone else ordered one since mid-March and received it? I'd just like an idea of timescales.

Thanks

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

I ordered a will download and a pdf death cert on 19th April.

The will arrived very quickly, still waiting for the death cert pdf but she's been dead over 100 years so I don't mind waiting for as long as it takes as I only bought it to satisfy my curiosity as to whether the death cert confirms the family story about this baby and what I think was probably her cause of death.

I placed orders for some in the week we entered lockdown - received them about a week ago. Still waiting for another by post.

Just to update on this, the pdf death cert was available to download this morning. It confirms she died age 2 months from spina bifida, and convulsions.

My grandma, who would have been aged 8, remembered her baby sister being carried around on a cushion and from her description we'd guessed the baby had been born with spina bifida.

I'm amazed she survived for two months given there were already four older children and the difficulties this working class family would have had with hygiene in their small, cramped home.
