I was just about to post that Emily Finlayson died 1980 - birthyear 27.3.1906 - a year different to the 1939 entry.  The marriage was a civil one so can't be looked up - www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

The marriage was in the right area as well - Sefton

There is an announcement in the deaths column in the Liverpool Echo 27 August 1980.

Finlayson - Emily (Edna), August 21st 1980, beloved wife of Archie.  It also mentions a daughter and a grandson, I haven't posted names in case they are still living. (PM me if you don't have access to the newspapers and want the names).

I'm not sure where the Edna name fits in 

ADDED:  The daughter's birth can be found on FreeBMD in 1939 Liverpool

The daughter could be living, given the marriage was 1939, so a sensible precaution Jool.

You can find her in the BMD easily as you say.

If you look, there are other Emily Roberts births in 1907/1906 in the right area, and the precise birthday could be a coincidence.

Without a transcription of the Finlayson/Roberts marriage, then I think it can't be proved/disproved until getting the certificate.

Added - so it looks like tornado's mum had a half sister, four years younger.  And may have some previously unknown relatives.

Tornado, there is a tree on Ancestry "Finlayson-Rodick Family Tree" which is owned by a Finlayson family member.  It could be worth contacting them - but please bear in mind they may not be aware of your mother's existence.

It's such a sense of satisfaction when someone joins RC, and with a bit of collaboration here we manage to find an answer.......can't wait for tornado to pop back and find out that her gran's been tracked down.
