The chap standing looks like he is wearing a flying suit.

His uniform does look odd not least because he has what looks like a map pocket in his trousers and RAF ground crew would not have that. His jacket pockets do not have buttons instead they appear to have pop studs.

Not an expert on uniforms, however know that the left knee map pocket and right upper hip pocket are from No 5 Uniform "Battledress", introduced in 1938 (having studied cargo pants a little while ago). Pretty sure they were used by RAF, Navy and Civil Defence.  I'm sure someone else can give more details!

Lovely photo. Gorgeous legs on those girls (Am I allowed to say that?  :) )

Fabulous photo. The four of them look wonderful. The girls have a similar look, so may be sisters.

I would suggest asking on the armed forces board for help to identify the uniforms - just a quick question and a link directing them to this thread should do the trick.

Keep in mind that sometimes people kept photos of friends and more distant relatives so these may not be even be your direct ancestors, but I hope that you will be able to work out who they are. Are there any older family members who might be able to help you? Do you have any other photos in the collection which feature any of these people?

Hi Ruskie.

I have taken your suggestion & posted on the Armed Forces board & also the Co Down, Ireland one.

One relative suggested the Fraser/NI route but no other clues from any others.

The one standing could be Canadian wearing the new battle dress as per this link https://www.canadiansoldiers.com/uniforms/battledress.htm

As with Crumblie, the seated man immediately shouts RAF but then the lack of the eagle badge at the top of the sleeve is a puzzle.  Officers' tunics didn't have eagles but he is a corporal - very odd.

The Canadian BD is simply what the Brits were already wearing.

The standing chap is a corporal or equivalent in the army definitely.  He has a formation sign with and what looks like an arm of service flash above it, that ought to be below it so odd again.

No help I'm afraid except agreeing with 1940s, RAF puzzle and army unidentified (no cap badge and shoulder titles unreadable).

There appears to be some censorship going by the photographer. Just under the sitting chap's shoulder (his uniform is definitely RAF) is a dark"shadow" that seems too dark compared to all others. And the badge on the standing guy doesn't make any sense.
