Lookup request Mary Keeligan Leeds b.1894
« on: Thursday 14 May 20 11:22 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have recently started looking up my family tree, most of it is going really well but I have hit an obstacle very early on with my maternal great grandmother.  Details I have about her are:

Name Mary Keeligan
born 1.5.1894
died 19.9.1982 Killingbeck Cemetery

Married Thomas Burke April 1913

I know she had a brother John Keeligan.  From the electoral role I can see in 1922-1928 Mary Thomas and John all lived at 14 Spring St, The Bank, Leeds.  Then on the 1930 it only shows Mary and Thomas living there.  I have no other details about John.

Am thinking do I look to get Mary and Thomas' wedding certificate.  I think I can order it? Would that give me any more information.  And I don't know anything about John Keeligan.

I really appreciate anyones help in where I go from here.

Yes certainly the marriage certificate is a good way to get information.  It should give you the fathers names and occupations for the bride and groom plus witness names may be helpful if they were  relatives.

You can also try and find Mary on the 1901/1911 census as you have her birth date.  If she is with a brother John as a child even better.

thank you again, I think I looked at this one before but dismissed it because of the age.  On my Nanna Burke's (as I grew up knowing her as) gravestone it says she was 88 and her death was 1982.  Could the age be that far out?

The census says Wigglesworth which I know is a street in The Bank area from the old maps I have found.

Yes ages often were out for various reasons but you are right to be cautious.

Also there was a John K who died in WW1 so he can't be the right one as you have him in the 1920's.

Probably the marriage for Mary is the best starting point and will give us more to go on.

yeah I got excited about the John Keeligan until I saw he died in the WWI and so couldn't have been on the electoral role in 1928.  I have just ordered the marriage certificate, first time doing anything like that so excited to see what comes in the post.

It is exciting to see what you find out.

Please do come back and let us know what it says.

Don't suppose you have anything with an age on for John do you?
