Thanks Sue, Jane Sutton/Lambert was the mistress of Joseph Augustus Lambert throughout his two marriages before he actually married Jane in 1901.  He died 2 years later after having one son legitimately.

My DNA match said that his  grandmother lived to be an old lady and died whilst turning away from her window overlooking Sydney harbour falling and hitting her head.  In the 1950s.  Jane died in 1948 in Ashfield so maybe that was the grandmother?  Memories do become distorted. However my cousin in Australia says the place of death doesn't add up.  Apparently she died at 19 Wattle Street, Haberfield.  She was Jane Mead by then having married William Alfred Mead in 1915.

Following on from Sue's post there's another account of his death and a bit about his family here:
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/139078890
Mentioned are - 3 children born to him and "Miss Getting", who "was taken from him by death. After a lapse of time he was married again, to Miss McGillivrey, and eight children were born, two of whom died, and there remain four sons and two daughters.  He became a widower a second time, and remained so for a lengthy period, when his amorousness overcame him, and he was united in wedlock to Miss Sutton, who brought to him a third family, the youngest being only a few months old."

Sue

She is buried alone at Field of Mars. There is a photo.

Yes, her death notice says she died at home, at HABERFIELD, which is a suburb adjoining ASHFIELD.

Oh  that is funny.  ;D To say "his amorousness overcame him."
What a wonderful way of putting it.

Along the same lines,I'm wondering Diana if you have details of the supposed SUTTON sister who married a LEE.
Was she in the same district as Jane and Joseph? :o

Death certificates as you know can be filled with misinformation and possibly the informant did not really know the name of Mrs PATTISON's parents.

I don't see any conflicting information ...  :) :) :) :) 1950s v 1948 ....
:) :) :- :) Haberfield would have been within the then NSWBDM district of Ashfield,  and Haberfield has many streets that lead to the Parramatta River
:) :) :) thats the same waterway which is navigated directly from Sydney Harbour
:) :) :) it would have been possible in 1948 as it is possible still to be looking out from various spots in Haberfield and see the outline of Sydney's CBD, including for example the arch of the Harbour Bridge.

Sue,

Jane's older sister Julia married Joseph Harrison and their daughter Ada married John Lee.

It has been a puzzle as to why Joseph didn't marry Jane when he had the chance.  He was known to be a bit of a "lad" - maybe successful people had to make higher class of marriage?  Thus poor Jane was ignored until very late in life.  It must have been so hard for her to have had all those children illegitimately.
