Death Certificate - Massachusetts
« on: Thursday 14 May 20 21:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have found the death entry in 1892 for my 2nd Great Grandmother using the site familysearch.org.  It lists a fair amount of detail, such as cause of death, husband's name, address and occupation, birthplace and name and birthplace of parents.

If I were to order a death certificate, would this give me any more information?

If so, please could someone tell me how I go about ordering a death certificate online.

Many thanks
Wendy

Is the document you found not the death certificate? Can you post a link to the Family Search document so we can see exactly what you found? I suspect that it is the death certificate in which case all you would get is a copy of what you've already found.

If you saw the image of the death register, I think that's all you get if you order it.  The Massachusetts website links to Family Search for digital copies.  http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcvitalrecords/vitalrecordsidx.htm

Here is a sample from 1892  -  yeah, it's Lizzie Borden's parents.  It was the only 1892 example I could find.

Using Andrew Borden's death as an example here's a digitised record with link to entry in death register-

Unless you need the certificate to prove a relationship, you're better off looking at the actual image yourself instead of hoping the person transcribes it all correctly.   :)

Thank you, here is a link to the entry

UK death certificates give the informant, usually a family member, this I would be interested in.  Thanks again, Wendy

Sorry, I meant to reply to the request by Aghadowey to post the link (I am not too good at using the 'quote' facility).

So I think I have only seen the death register and not the actual certificate.

Would the certificate give any more info?

Thanks
Wendy

On the Borden documents, which purport to be true copies of the original death certificates prepared by the Massachusetts Secretary of State, there is a space to record the name of the informant but it was left blank in both cases.
