Halstock Baptism
« on: Friday 15 May 20 17:00 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a baptism of a daughter born (so says the census) in Halstock in December 1853 but have not been successful with parish records. Noncon is a distinct possibility as several close members of that family married as such. There remains a building in Halstock which was known as Bethel Chapel from 1834 - 1996 before becoming a private home. Is anyone aware of extant noncom registers associated with this chapel?  Thanks for any help. Toby.

Hi Toby

You forgot to give a surname or parents's names.

Quite right Gadget. It was Annie Old Wills who is to be found in East Chelborough age 7 in 1861, the daughter of William & Theresa. T

I've been looking at info about Bethel House and also find that there were families who were Plymouth Brethren. I'm not sure of the ceremonies/sacraments of that religion so I'm wondering if she would be baptised.

Have you found a civil birth registration for her?

I see that her sister, Mary Jane, was baptised 6 May 1860, East Chelborough. parents - William and Theresa.

Was Theresa a Curtis or a Miller  :-\

I see from the 1851 that she was a Curtis  - both William and she were servants in the East  Chelborough Rectory.

Add - and married  Q4  1852. Beaminster RD

Interesting possibility - no probability, Gadget. Thanks for that. Certainly Beaminster covers both East Chelborough & Halstock and the date is fine. Old as a second name really clinches it, but what is the source of Miller as the mother's name? Have you seen a birth certificate?
Miller was not her mother's maiden name. It was Curtis BUT her father was a miller.
Certainly, Gadget, you are making me to look at this with fresh eyes. Thanks.Toby.

We clashed there. East Chelborough makes sense but I have found no good reason for a baptism in Halstock. T
