From electoral rolls

Peter TRAYNOR
1914 111 Bathurst st gardener; & 63 Elizabeth st gardener
1915 111 Bathurst st gardener
1917 85 Elizabeth st no occupation
1919 174 York st no occupation

There is nothing I can see for him on the Tas. Names Index, but there may be some hospital records for him that I will look in to.

The cd's of the Tasmanian indexes are not widely held by individuals and are not shared online to my knowledge.

There were at one time a couple of rootschat members who had them, but these members are not so active in recent times.

Ask a librarian at Libraries Tasmania may be a solution for you if a record is not offered on this thread.

Hi, the Federation Index only shows limited information eg:  Peter Traynor died at the General Hospital, Launceston with ref: 869/1919.

After 1900 you have to apply for any certificates to the Justice Department and I can tell you they cost heaps!.  Last year I paid around $50.00 for a marriage record (that I really, really needed to find the Groom's parents), the costs seem to go up yearly.

The Record of Death - usually show the Surname: Christian or other Names; Date of Death, Place of Death, Occupation, stated year of birth; Sex; Usual place of residence, reputed birthplace - plus  Conjugal condition at death; If ever married (Name and surname of Spouse);  Issue of all marriages (only how many children - not named).
If never married - name of parents;  If born overseas - period of residency in Australia.
Cause of Death.

Prior to 1900 the Pioneer Index (1803-1899) shows more information, this is available online and free from the State Library.

Cheers

I've submitted a question to the archives asking them to check the hospital admission register. I suspect that Peter Traynor had no family in Tasmania, but they may have recorded his country of birth.

The Carr Villa records have that Peter was buried in the RC section. And there is no headstone.

You might be able to find something in the Undertakers book for his burial (Launceston area if someone has them or perhaps check with the Launceston Family History Society).  I don't have them for Launceston only Hobart area unfortunately.

Contact the cemetery and ask if there are other burials in the same plot......section 83 number 488.

I really appreciate the efforts of everyone who has tried to help.  I am hoping to avoid having to purchase the death certificate as I'm not sure whether this person is the one I am looking for.

Webby - do you have access to the Tasmanian Federation Index?  Was the information you provided in your earlier post all that it shows?

Regards
Karen

Just the  name, date of death, place of death and the registration numbers.

That's it....the registration numbers are what you need (if) you apply for the death certificate.

There are only 4 Traynors listed on the index and they are all from Launceston.
