Tyson’s and Postlethwaites from Dalton and Kirkby
« on: Saturday 16 May 20 18:36 BST (UK) »
Hi, my Grandmother was Annie Jane Tyson from Dalton her father was Moses Postlethwaite Tyson. Annie died in 1964, the year after my birth, in Whitehaven. Family tradition has it that she was buried with her parents. My mum always said that the churchyard at Askam and Ireleth had been opened for this process but I wonder if it wasn’t St Cuthbert as there appear to be family connections with Kirkby Ireleth. At some point Moses, who I suspect on some census drops his first name, was an iron ore miner at Lindal Moor. I also note that the family name Postlethwaite appears regularly, including in at least two marriages of Moses sisters. Anyone able to help with insights into the Tysons, Postlethwaite and Gran’s final resting place?

Are you sure about her father?

Was Annie Jane Tyson not her married name?

There was an Annie Jane Sanderson b 1889 in Whitehaven who married George Tyson on the 1939 regsier with Joseph b 1916 mmn Sanderson in Ennerdale which is in rag district Whitehaven

in 1911 with husband George living with mother Ann Sanderson

There is no Annie Jane Tyson b 1888-1890 which according to her death age was when she was born

Moses Postlethwaite Tyson was born 1855  Ulverston per www.freebmd.org.uk

A tree on Ancestry says he married Elizabeth Birkett in 1898

Daughter Annie Jane b 4.1.1904 but shows death as 1963 Whitehaven.  No marriage details etc

Annie married John Boylan and died 1963 - not 1964 in Whitehaven.  She died as Boylan - not Tyson

Moses died 1926 Kirby Ireleth.  Moses parents were John Tyson & Mary Postlethwaite who married in Ulverston in 1853

Lancsann, absolutely certain that the name is right. She married John Boylan in Barrow in 1931. Moved to Whitehaven in the 40’s where she died 1963.

Hi

The name is not right hence Ann’s reply.  See my reply 3 above

In your opening post you named her as Annie Jane Tyson who died 1964 - no birthyear given

No death in 1964 as per Ann’s reply because she had married & was Annie Jane Boylan who died in 1963

Don’t worry about it - we got there in the end ;D
