Thornaby on Tees Cemetery East Yorkshire
« on: Sunday 17 May 20 10:40 BST (UK) »
Good Morning,
Ive just joined this site and I'm going around in circles trying to establish where to post.
Here's my query

My uncle was born Norman Page in 1931. He died aged 2 in 1933 and death registed with East Riding of Yorkshire. He was buried in Thornaby Cemetery but as far as I am aware there is no gravestone. I am trying to trace his grave so I can mark it in some way shape or form but no luck so far. I'd be really grateful to anybody who can help please.

Welcome to Rootschat

He may have been buried in a public grave.  Those graves are occupied by more than one person and are usually marked with some kind of brick with the grave number on it.  Unfortunately over the years the marker can sink and become invisible.

There doesn't appear to be anything online but sometimes members have other records at their disposal.  If not - you could contact the cemetary or records office when they re-open

Thank you for the information. Its sad to say you are probably right about the public grave. I never thought about that but my grandparents were quite poor and would not have been able to afford an individual one. Do you know whether the local Council will be able to point me in the right direction as to where he is? Are public graves extensive?  So very very sad that a 2 year old died and there is nothing to commemorate him.

It's been a few years since I contacted them, but I found Stockton Bereavement Services helpful in locating graves, I don't know if I can give you their phone number on the forum but Google will find it.

Norman Page death registration March- June 1933 Middlesbrough 9d 664

I have now managed to find my Uncle and I have paid for the plot in Thornaby cemetery. I now intend to buy a headstone. The problem I have is that I do not know his date of death. I applied to GRO for birth/death certificates on 15 June 2020 but still waiting. Middlesbrough Registry Office cannot find the records either. This is delaying buying a memorial. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can find his actual date of death please? I know he was interred on 18 April 1933.

Sorry - actual death date is only available by buying the death cert.
