an Abbey is a Roman Catholic Monastery where Nuns or Priests lived - King Henry VIII had them all denounced - it may be my ignorance - but I was not aware that Baptisms were carried out at Abbeys any more - obviously I am wrong   :)

No you are not wrong - I have just looked up the definition -- but that goes on to say that some Abbeys are now used as churches.

I suppose Westminster Abbey is another example - although I never knew Westminster Abbey was a home for Monks.

Quote;

I have seen Samuel and Mary as his wife. Do you think Martha could be Mary?

I may have confused you.

I had Martha Wright as the possible Wife of JOHN Eve ie Samuels Parents.

Samuel Wife was definitely a Mary from childrens Baptisms.

EDIT I picked the John Eve/Martha Wright marriage as a possible as they name a Son Abraham Wright Eve

As John Eve was shown as a 'stranger' at Samuel's baptism in Bath -- I did a 'blanket' search for John Eve marriages in the few years leading up to Samuel's birth.

Essex seemed to have at least 3 (it was yesterday and I've slept since then!) -- there were 2 Marys I think and a Martha. It's a difficult one - as 'stranger' may just mean from somewhere else in Somerset - or from further afield.

Several deaths are recorded in Essex for men named John Eve -- in the decades after the baptism of Samuel. Only one John Eve seems to be buried in Somerset (Bath) over the following decades. (1769).

I am just wondering if any Church Wardens records or something like that, exist for that period in the local archives. Just to see if this surname is mentioned during the time covering Samue's baptism. Otherwise we are just guessing.

Hi
I have found a marriage of Samuel Eva and Mary Gill in Cornwall in 1750. But why was he in Cornwall?

North Weald Bassett and Magdalen Laver in John's will, Shenfield in Abraham's.

That marriage in Ugley was by licence
Certainly says Martha Wright
