A John Albert Lowe, with next of kin mother Mary Jane Lowe of Temperance Lane Wrexham served in the Royal Flying Corps from March 1917 and then the RAF as a labourer in a salvage unit.  He had previously been in a balloon party in a Kite Balloon section (hanging on to the ropes!)  Discharged Jan 1919.  He was an aircraftman not a pilot rank Private 2.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

I'm thinking it was a ballon with a basket , held fast from the ground. JAL would have been in the basket.
Am I  right.

See:

The balloon party are the unfortunates whose job it was to haul the thing down and secure it and so on - - the guys pictured on the ground.

This is such sad news, Max D was always first to answer any of my military  questions I had, his knowledge helped me out  so many times.
He will be greatly missed.
