Army Records 1700's Yeovil

Looking for some advice on how to find records of a George Cheffey  born Yeovil about 1716 joined the 8th Regiment of Foot about 1739 aged 24 pensioned out 1763 aged 48.
any assistance would be most appreciated

I look at the Regiment history, including when it was incorporated into other Regiments or Battalions.

The 8th Regiment of Foot became the 8th Kings Regiment of Foot in 1751 and had Liverpool as its host City with their Depot being at Warrington until 1910 when it move to Seaforth.

It became The Kings Regiment and then The Duke of Lancasters.

My point being is that through the iterations of name the older records can end up many miles away from what was the local Regiment base.

Hence you may find records online in the Regimental Museum, I certainly found records of my 2x Great Grandfather who was also in one of the Foot Regiments the Regimental Museum.

Ancestry only returns the 1763 Chelsea Hospital record, age, 48, service 24 years, worn out, born in Eovill, labourer.
