Stillbirth records
« on: Tuesday 19 May 20 13:19 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone can help me
I know my grandparents had a son born in 1923 in Blackburn I can find his death record but can't find his birth I have details of his burial in June 1923 as I have the grave papers when his grave was bought I  would just like to know his birth/death details I have always been aware he died under the age of one but after exhausted research I now believe he might have been stillborn can anyone give me details how I can find this out
Thanks

It may be a good idea to get his death certificate as that should give you some idea how old he was when he died.

ADDED What was his name

I have noticed in records that if a child was still born or died very soon after only a death was registered and not a birth

Still born records are held at GRO  and have to be applied for but I don't know what date it started

Civil registration of stillbirths began 1st July 1927, and if the child was stillborn, he/she would have been entered on the Stillborn Register.
There is The Historic Stillbirth Register http://anguline.co.uk/stillbirths.html

So that means the only record I can get for him is his death certificate but will that tell me if he was born on that day I know for sure he was buried after the 15 June 1923 as I have the receipt for the purchase of the grave giving this date
