cant read a will :(
« on: Wednesday 20 May 20 15:34 BST (UK) »
hello, I have found my 8x ggf will online on Ancestry, but i can only read about 10 words. Does anyone know of an online service that doesn't cost too much who could decipher it for me? I need the whole of the will so i cant post it on here as its 2 full pages long. Thank you.

Can you post a snippet?  If it's one of the hands I'm familiar with, I'll help you with it.

Oh, that's not too bad!  If you send me the will - I'll PM you my email - I'll have a bash.

Pompey, I used to panic at the sight of old handwriting too! I'm still not great with 16th century secretary hand, but the more you keep looking, the easier it gets. I'd suggest that when you get Cati's transcription, don't just look at that, but read it side by side with the original so you can work out the difficult words. Doing that really helped me learn how to read these older styles of script.
