For the last 4 years I've been making calendar notes to cancel my Ancestry sub a week or so before it auto renews. On each occasion I have been able to renew at half the price within an hour or so of my sub expiring, using their discount offers.

No the site begins with A, have just checked and you can only stop auto renewal on UK site by cancelling your subscription, as far as I can understand, will stand being corrected on this.

Preventing automatic renewal
Except for gift memberships, all memberships renew automatically unless they're cancelled.

Yes, they usually email  you about a month before it is due.

You always get an email and it says
*Your membership will automatically renew **** 2020. At that time you will be charged the price specified in the above email. If you don’t want to renew, you need to cancel at least two days before your renewal date. Cancel by visiting the My Account section. See our Terms and Conditions for further details.
