Thomas and Peter Christie's parents
« on: Wednesday 20 May 20 20:09 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the parents of Thomas Christie, bn in Edinburgh 1818-1819, married Mary Anne Gray in Gibraltar 1844, was in Royal sappers and Miners. He died in 1870, in Brompton cemetary. Peter married Agnes Irvine in Wigtown 1844, he immigrated to Philadelphia around 1852. I believe they were bn in St. Cuthberts. Thank You!

Welcome to rootschat, nelson.

Have you looked on scotlandspeople for parish baptism or marriage records, and who were they living with on 1841 census?

A tree on Ancestry has Peter returning from Philadelphia and marrying Mary Ann after Thomas's death, then all going back to Philadelphia.

There is a marriage in Chelsea in 1871 of Peter, 47, a tailor, a widower, and Mary Ann Gray, 45, a widow, both of Lower Sloane Street.  His Father given as Thomas Christie and hers as John Tucker.

1880 census for a Peter Christy in Philadelphia.
All 3 are tailors, described as sons, he is widowed.  His parents and sons' parents born Scotland, but George was born England
Peter Christy 56  Scotland tailor widower
Thomas Christy 33  Scotland tailor
George Christy 18  England tailor

Added:
Quite a lot of information about George on Ancestry - wedding, military, census, calculated arrival date.

Peter leaves everything to his beloved son Thomas, on Peter's death in 1899.

Living in Philadelphia in 1860
Peter Christe  36  Scotland  Tailor
Annie Christe 28  England
Thomas Christe 13   Scotland
Jane Christe 7  Penna.

Added:
Presumably this is where you got the date of immigration around 1852  i.e. before Jane's birth.

Peter and Thomas are described as born in England on 1870 Philadelphia census (both tailors)

Added:
Possibility for her (Peter's wife's) death, but she is not with them in 1870, so already died?
Ann Christie born about 1831, age 43
Died 17th August 1874 at  Philadelphia   Buried  20th August 1874
Street address:  1632 Cementhaus Ave
Cemetery:  Mount Moriah Cemetery Marital status: Married
FHL Film Number:  2026529
But there are other Ann Christy's in Philadelphia of similar age

Thank you all. I know that Peter and Thomas are brothers from 2 personal sources, one from a letter to my deceased uncle who was researching family line, Two sons, Thomas and Peter, bn in Edinburgh and then about their children and family tree to the point of the note being written. The other was my uncles research of civil and military records while in scotland in the 60s. They both appear to be very accurate from what I have researched.
I have done some research on Ancestry, and it may have been my tree that was mentioned. I put Thomas and Margaret Dickson as a bit of a guess, but do not have real proof it is them. George is my
great grandfather and I have quite a bit of his life story.
I have Thomas as a blacksmith and Peter as a tailor. After Thomas died in london, Peter, who was already twice a widow, returned to London and married Thomas's widow and brought George to America. Peter had a son named Thomas, and Mary Ann had a son named Thomas.
I had put Leslie as the father, but decided I may be wrong as he did not have a thomas for a son.
