Charles Brunger b1859 in Maidstone
« on: Thursday 21 May 20 11:09 BST (UK) »
I have identified 2 Charles Brungers.

Charles 1 is the son of George Brunger and Selina Bennett. He is clearly traceable from his birth 8/06/1859 through his baptisms, and the census to his marriage in 1894 to Agnes Fanny Thompson.  I lose him after 1920 and cannot find a death for him yet.
He sometimes is recorded as Charles William.

Charles 2 has no records until his marriage in 1880 to Mary Waters Andrews.  He is then traceable via the census to his death in 1917.  On his marriage cert he puts his father as George.
He is sometimes recorded as Charles George.

Some people seem to record this as one and the same person; but 1881 has Charles 1 living with his parents at  156, Up Stone Street, Maidstone, Kent; and 1881 has Charles 2 living with his wife down the road at 82 Upper Stone Street, Maidstone, Kent.

1881 confusingly has Charles 1 as married in that census but his marriage cert says he is a bachelor.

My question is.... where is Charles 2 in 61 and 71.  There are no birth records for another Charles born in Maidstone in 1859 +/- 2 years.  I have also searched under Bronger.
Who is he!?
Thanks for any help!

Are you researching the origins of this Charles BRUNGER?

FreeBDM    Maidstone  DecQ 1880 Vol 2A  page 1057
BRUNGER Charles  marr.  ANDREWS Mary Walters

There should be useful information on the marriage certificate.

Charles BRUNGER....what age....what occupation......what address...what occupation for father George.

"..He is sometimes recorded as Charles George."

Who...father George is sometimes Charles George....or son Charles is sometimes Charles George?

Mary Walters ANDREWS....what age......what address...what name and occupation for father.

What church do they marry in...what names for witnesses.

It is not unknown for someone to appear twice on a census.  As he is living in the same street on both entries it is even more possible  ;D

Yes who is the father of Charles number 1 when he marries Agnes?

Could he have been entered twice - is occupation/birthplace etc exactly the same or different?

Might explain the single/married differential.

To clarify  Charles 1 is Charles William.  Charles 2 is Charles George.
Both their fathers are simply George.

I have the marriage cert of Charles George. Married 31 Oct 1880 • St Phillips, Maidstone Kent
Father is George a labourer.  No clue in the witness names which are George Hounslow and Ann Eliza Burrells

I don't believe it is the same person recorded at 2 different addresses in 1881 as all subsequent census have them in their separate houses with their wives and families.
