Italian POW
« on: Thursday 21 May 20 14:33 BST (UK) »
Rather an odd one, and perhaps bit of guessing

An Italian POW, Giovanni Capo was in Laurencekirk in ww2.

It is believed he had a son, possibly called Hubert. It is more than likely the son was registered in the Mother's surname.

Not sure how easy it is to backtrack to see if it possible to search a birth register to see the son's name. I have a possible name born in 1946, but aware the person could still be alive in which case. it cannot be discussed on here, and my research will stop.

You can search the index at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk using only a given name and no surname.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi all

Yes relates to info from the website.

I hve been aent some paperwork from the persons grand-daughter and she was looking for some info.

I have one name in the frame, but wanted to aee what else Info I could get to support it. That way not putting a name up that could be wrong and still living.

Have you looked at the SP index as I suggested?

Yes

Used SP to work out the possible name?

Ah, that's fine then. I don't think there's much more you can do in Scottish records until after the end of lockdown.
