Edward Searby, bigamist
« on: Friday 22 May 20 09:57 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out more about Edward Lawrence Searby, frustrated by snippets in the local paper.  He was born in Sculcoates in 1846 and married Ann Bainbrough in 1869.  In 1877 he got 9 months in prison for two offences of embezzlement from his coal merchant employer.  In 1881 he seems to be separated from his wife, and there's no record of her death.  But in 1884 he married again.  Then in October 1885 comes the intriguing news snippet attached.  And I can't find anything else to tell us what happened next.  I know that he was admitted to the Hull Charterhouse in May 1916 and died in 1921.  Can anyone help?

Thanks, Bee.  Your boredom is my gain.  ;D  I had the 1891, but the 1901 is interesting.  Ann E seems to be the Annie E Cotton whom he married bigamously in 1884.  And she died in 1902 aged 41.  So why is he down as widowed in 1891?  Where was his first wife?  There's a death of an Ann Searby in 1901 but she is too old, and no death for Ann Bainbrough.   It's okay, I don't expect you to find the answers, just speculating.
