Alfred Worthington 1835-1925
« on: Friday 22 May 20 21:01 BST (UK) »
Whilst researching my extended family tree I have come across the above who according to the 1841 Census (HO107 494 27) was living with his mother and his siblings at Marine/Mesine Place, St James the Apostle Dover, Kent. I presume his father Benjamin was at sea as he was a Royal Navy Lieutenant.

My query is; at the bottom of the Census return it states Affiliate Record Type, Institution.

Can anyone say what type of Institution this was?

Thank you in anticipation.

The actual image has no such annotation.  The address is Marine Place preceded by Marine Parade  and there are a large number of entries who are shown as male or female servants

Go to Page 1 and the Enumerators schedule - normal housing - no institutions

Dover Telegraph & Cinque Ports General Advertiser, 12 Dec 1835
MUNICIPAL REGISTRATIONS

"... to revise the lists of Burgesses in the borough ...

Benjamin Worthington appeared in the list as rated for a house in Eastbrook and Marine Place. The notice of objection was served at Eastbrook; and Mr Daniell contended that the Act, which required the notice to be served personally or at the property rated, had not been fully complied with. The court decided the notice good, and the name was expunged, Mr Worthington not appearing to prove his qualification"

The many adverts in this newspaper at this period for property at Marine Place (Nos 1-8) describe them as "substantial", "genteel", "well built", "well finished" "private residence" etc.

Thanks to all who have responded. I was just going off the 1841 Census which has been attached to Alfred Worthington on the Family Search website, his ID reference being MMQG-JBS.

That is the FS identifier only.  As stated - the actual image has no such annotation

Here are 2 other examples of that ref on other unconnected 1841 entries
