Looking for parentage and children of Catherine Eltham
« on: Saturday 23 May 20 15:54 BST (UK) »
Catherine Eltham married Thomas Emat in Sonning on 15 Dec 1755.
I have found a burial for a Catherine Emmett in Sonning on 24 April 1806
and a burial for a Thomas Emmett in Sonning on 17 Apr 1785. No ages given on either so cannot be sure it is them.
I would expect Catherine Eltham to be married in her early 20s so the Catherine buried in 1806 would be in her early 70s, which seems quite reasonable.
Can anyone find a baptism probably in early 1730s in Sonning or nearby, please.
Also can anyone find any children for this couple please.
There are some infant/ child burials in Sonning around this time, indicating that there are more than one Emmett family.

Hi LizzieL,

This entry may be useful;

Katharine Elham d/o Thomas & Mary Elham bapt. 173-1733 in Harpsden, Oxon

Harpsden is only about 1½ parishes away from Sonning in Berks.

If you would like an image of the original register I can send one.

Thanks Alan, that is a strong possibility.
Now I have the surname as Elham, I have just found image on Ancestry. And on the same page (it's a small parish) in 1729 there is a William baptised to Thomas and Mary Eltham. I think more likely Eltham is right name and Elham the mistake by the vicar, easier to leave the "t" out in 1733 than put one in on the 1729 record.

Found 3 earlier children, Amie, Thomas and Elizabeth, but can't find Thomas and Mary's marriage in Harpsden. What a nice, clearly written register, wish they were all like that.
