my very own bigamist :)
« on: Saturday 23 May 20 22:51 BST (UK) »
Here's what I've translated for Robert Baird's Baptism so far:

Baptized n: Robert, was presented by David Merry, as ___ in _____
Wm Baird was guilty of bigomy

P: William Baird : Beatrie Merry
W: Rott (Robert?) Baird; John C_____

Any contributions most appreciated.

Could it be David Merry of ___ in ___ , so you would be looking for a location maybe?

"of Gonfarn in Elgardy" is all I can see, which sounds like nonsense.
and for the surname of the 2nd witness, I have no clue. "Cragwhown" is what I get.

Either way, it might help the other ones looking at this thread if you say when and where this record was. maybe someone will recognize the name of the place or the surname from the local area.

Of course - my apologies.

This is a Baptism for Robert Baird (1698) in Muiravonside. He's the son of William Baird & Beatrie Merry.

Thanks horselyeown86 but I think it's a person, not a place. So the record reads:

Baptized n: Robert, was precented
be David Merry as sponsar In regard yt
Wm Baird was guilty Bigomy -
P: William Baird Beatrix Merry
W: Rott Baird John Cragietown

Crawford, Smith, Marr, Newton, McClement, and more :)

The name in the last line is definitely John Collqwhown = Colquhoun. It has to be a surname and Collqwhown is a known spelling of the name.
