William Peate, who was he. In Wrexham 1869 to 1871
« on: Monday 25 May 20 19:36 BST (UK) »
Even though William Peate must still be alive in 1871 I just can`t find any likely ones that fit.
I don`t  know how old he was,  or where he was from originally.  It`s a long shot but can anyone find him. Thanks
Wrexham Advertiser.

I can't see him anywhere.
.
I thought maybe he was born in the 1840s or perhaps very early 1850s  since described as young in that piece.
And I was looking for a baker or similar trade.

The best was one who was a grocer, but he had children and none of them were born Wrexham

I thought also, that perhaps he was doing an apprenticeship in 1861, but didn't have any luck there either.

I did note that sometimes PEATE looks like PEAK

At least this will bring your query up the list again.

Added the Gazette of 18 July 1871 regarding payment of a dividend of 5s 5d per £ suggests he is still in Wrexham.

Thanks for your interest , I have a few clues but that`s all they amount to. Without finding him in 1871 as a  baker etc I`m stumped. It`s possible his father helped him out and   gave him some land.
Robert Peate died in 1881 but no mention of William on the probate.
So really - all guesswork until  a descendant turns up the the letter from the King of Belgium .......

Guessing .
William Peate catered for a lot of outside events for the better off residents including the Oswestry
Area.

Hi, 1871 ref RG10 3817 123 42, believe he meets a lot of the criteria re your post. Aged 23, a lodger, with the occupation "Confectioner". Born according to census transcription Salertyne. Think this should be Selattyn. A good contender for his birth would be MQ 1848 Oswesty 18 147 mmn Evans. Selattyn comes under the Oswesty reg dist.
1851 ref HO107 1993 116 17
1861 RG 1875 56 8

Not as yet located him after 1871 but there are some emigrations after this date that I do not have access to but could be him.

Interested in this, Wilcoxin as a 1st cousin of mine (much older than me) married a Peate from the same area - Gobowen in this case.

I'll see what I can find.

Well done  , the rest of
Peate family in 1871 are from the same area, just a shame no relationship is given.

I got the marriage details from a tree on Ancestry, but again I wasn't sure it was the same man.
