1910  New York Oneida Utica Ward 12
William is still alive  with Elizabeth and daughter Mabel.
1920 Forestport, Oneida, New York
Elizabeth is a widow and Mabel still there.
So that narrows Williams death down a bit.

I found this but can`t see the original, it would be nice to have an obituary to see if it`s the right William Peate.

Name:    William Peate Age at Death:    65
Birth Date:    1850 Death Date:    9 Apr 1915
Death Place:    San Francisco, San Francisco, California
Funeral Home:    N. Gray & Co. Funeral Records
Funeral Place:    San Francisco, San Francisco, California
Obituary Included:    YES

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/209642896/william-peate
Forest Hill Cemetery
Utica, Oneida County, New York, USA

If he died in San Francisco  would he be likely to be buried in New York, wife Elizabeth and his son are also named on the stone.  Age not exactly right but ....

wilcoxon, re the 1871 census. I believe Williamis staying in the home of his uncle Andrew Peate c 1832. William's father William snr was born c1818 and both Andrew & William snr have parents Thomas Peate and Martha Arthur.

Thanks. i`ll take a look later.
I`ve found William Peate`s death record, he was cremated and taken back to NY
seems  like he was in a Care home in California.

wilcoxon, I may have made an error with the birth gro ref. Now believe his mother's maiden name was Lloyd. He was christened 11th Sept 1848 as William Lloyd Peate parents William & Elizabeth. Not to be confused with the William Peate christened 23rd April 1848 parents John and Maria.
