Thomas Rayner Cachpoole or Poole
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 08:44 BST (UK) »
I'm really struggling tracing a branch in my tree and need some help.My 3x GGF Thomas Rayner Poole was born in Hayton (nr Retford)Nottinghamshire. When searching for his Bapt record I found a record for a Thomas Rayner Cachpoole.I don't know if they are the same person but my inclination they are. Is there any Pooles/Cachpooles/or Rayners still living in the area that can confirm or throw some light upon it.After the 1861 census the whole family disappear.Thomas and his son George Rayner are lodging on the 1861 census. His daughter Sarah Elizabeth is visiting someone and his wife Ellen Ward/Poole is not on any 1861 census.
Thomas was born 1813 in Hayton Nottingham and married Ellen Ward 1837 Hemingbrough near Selby Yorkshire. He appears in 1841 census with his wife son William and daughter Ann in Selby.1851 census he appears near Rotherham with his family.1861 census he appears in Thorne near Doncaster with his son George in lodgings. After that there is nothing of any of his family except George who is now a soldier at Portsea Hampshire on the1871 census

Have you seen the actual parish register entry for the 1813 Cachpoole baptism.  I can only see transcripts online all of which seem to originate from the familysearch transcript.

Yes Rosie I've actually got a copy of the baptism record for 1813.The thing that is confusing is in 1793 in the same church a George Pool married a Mary Rayner. Could they be his grandparents. If so why would his father William be called Cachpoole.

Hi,

I can see this transcription, which shows his parents as William and Elizabeth,

Thomas CACHPOOLE
Born:    04 Jun 1813
Baptism:  30 Jun 1813
Hayton,  Nottinghamshire
Denominatio:  Anglican
Residence:  Hayton
Father:  William CACHPOOLE
Mother:  Elizabeth
Father's occupation:   Soldier

I wonder if this could be them?

22 Sep 1804
Saint Mary,  Kingston Upon Hull,  Yorkshire
William CATCHPOLE
Elizabeth RAYNER

but there is also this,

Christening
25 Dec 1785
Hayton, Nottinghamshire
Elizabeth RAYNOR
Parents:  Thomas and Sarah

Could this be the same Elizabeth?

Just ideas to think about :)

Regards,
Daisy

Maybe Thomas didn't know his father's full name? I found this marriage,

13 April 1815, Hayton, Nottinghamshire

William HINDE
Bachelor
Residence:  Hayton

Elizabeth CATCHPOLE
Widowed
Residence:  Hayton

First witness:  Richd JUSTICE
Second witness:  Sarah HIND

Phillimores image, and other transcriptions show William as HINDS,

Hayton with Tilne,  Nottinghamshire
William HINDS
Elizabeth CATCHPOLE  widow
