Emma West
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 16:43 BST (UK) »
Coming back to this lady after drawing a blank in 2009 (no replies)

Looking for Emma West born 1851 Leckford, Hants.

Eldest daughter of William West (occ-Shepherd) and Fanny (nee Jeffery)

In 1871, the Wests are living at the Dog Kennels in Wilton. Emma is Housekeeper (Unemployed) to her father William (who had been blinded by sunstroke) and the rest of the family (Fanny having died). William dies during the 1870s and I can trace her brothers and sisters, but Emma seems to have disappeared.

Where did she go ? Cannot see marriage or death for her.

Grateful please for any assistance. Thanks Kanskar

Apologies I think this should be in the Wiltshire forum not the lookups.

Did William leave a will?  And if so, was Emma mentioned in it?

According to Wilton parish records, there is an Emma West who dies in Wilton in 1888.  Her age in the burial record is 31, but have you traced who this Emma belongs to, to make sure that it is not an error in the age of the deceased?

For what it’s worth, her age is also 31 in the death reg index (Sep qtr 1888 Wilton 5a 107).

There's an Emma West b c1858 in Wilton on the 1881 census - she married to Frank, and has maiden name James

Suspect the death may be discountable?

Thank you for the replies.

I'm inclined to agree that the Emma dying in 1888 is the one married to Frank on the 1881 census.

I will check on the wills for William. He dies in 1876, if I recall correctly.

FindMyPast has a burial record for an Emma West, buried 14 Dec 1878 at Wherrel Hampshire, (only 2 miles from Leckford), England Deaths & Burials 1538-1991

I can’t see it on GRO to see the age?
