Searching census by address
«

Can someone please remind me if it is possible to search the Census by using an address rather than a name? I have a feeling I have done this in the past, but now can't remember how. Thanks.

Sorry, I should have said, I am on Ancestry, not on Find my Past. Is there any way you can do it there, or anywhere else?

You could try
Help:Census Street searches
, though there is limited coverage.
Note that only street indexes to the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1891 have been included on Your Archives so far.

The Genealogist also has a census address search function.
What address are you looking for, and for what year(s) ?

Thank you. Is the Genealogist free to use, or is it another site that I would need to join? It's just an idle thought I had this morning, having watched A House Through Time last night. I wondered whether I could find out who had lived in my grandparents houses before they did. This would only apply to the 1901 and 1911 census as the houses were built in the 1890s.

The Genealogist would probably be free for a trial time then you pay.
I have a sub to Find My Past. If you would like to give me the full addresses I will have a look for you.

Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
