Now I am on the horns of a dilemma, it is edible from a reputable shop, but
I can’t disinfect it, only the box, which I have done.
I have accepted it and it will have been expensive ,but I am apprehensive
about touching it and eating the contents .
But they really have broken the rules throughout ,yet they seem well.
Oh deary me!
What a dilemma. It seems so ungrateful but what a thing to choose ,and it is individually made , with all THIS going on a very inappropriate present to one of my advanced years.
I might just  bin it and tell lies. Viktoria .

As far as I know,  the virus survives on cardboard or paper for only a few hours.
Have the contents been touched by human hands recently?

Is it a cake Viktoria?  ;D

If so you could freeze it (if that would kill any possible nasties).  :) Scrap that idea:

Pharma, I agree that a word to the teacher about how much longer than expected it took your daughter to complete her work would be well worth doing. The teacher might find it helpful to know so she can adjust her time estimate accordingly and be more realistic when setting work in the future.  :)

I've read 2 articles. Can't read 3rd (fruit & veg without signing up for a sub). I could see that it said risk of catching coronavirus from food was low.  I peel fruit & veg then wash my hands.
I've not eaten a fresh, unwrapped cake for weeks. I used to buy a locally made one on Saturdays from the little grocer & newsagent in the next street but it closed 6 weeks ago.
If it's cake from a "reputable shop" it should have been handled hygienically.

Well to be precise it is “ Afternoon tea for one”, so dainty, from a local reputable caterer.
Tiny sandwiches, scone ,clotted cream and jam.Madeira cake,  a profiterole
and huge slice of Victoria sponge with jam, cream and strawberries on top.
One candle.
A very kind thought and she said later when I saw her outside that her next door neighbour had a birthday last week too and she had got that neighbour one then.
Well I wiped the box and most stuff was in cling film, scone sandwiches and Madeira cake.
It is just that the family have not been good re social distancing but then the contents most probably won’t have been touched by neighbours as she did not seem to know what was in the box entirely.
I just felt oooer! I could not refuse it,so kind, but they really have been cavalier about precautions.
Well I am not up to date re what we may and may not do so am staying in .
But will sit in the garden now and again ,today a real scorcher.
Thirsty plants again so watering this evening .
Kind neighbour took their two guinea pigs for a manicure today,so the pet shop must be open unless it is a dog “ Boutique”.
Cheerio folk , Viktoria.

Viktoria "Afternoon tea for one" (or 2 &c.) is offered as a takeaway or delivery (advance order) by a cafe in my area. The service began on Mothering Sunday.

That sounds really lovely, but would need to be eaten immediately. As the weather is hot, I would probably be concerned about the fresh cream and contents of the sandwiches - has it been chilled?

You would expect that the food would not have been touched by hands without gloves .....(could you ring the caterer to enquire about precautions they take with food preparation?)

Thanks, I suppose  I was  being a bit paranoid, but again this afternoon the neighbours had a guest not even family,I know that for certain .
All close round a table in the garden.
But I thought about it and suppose only the tea shop staff will have touched the food.
I wiped the cardboard box ,speaking with my son this aft he said the preparation etc would have been done under strict conditions, so no different to a bought cake from a baker’s ( which I don’t  buy).
One the same was given to another neighbour a week or two ago when she had her Birthday.
I have not seen her for a week  or so, but nothing strange in that.
Thank you very much for the info,I feel daft now!
But her coming up my path to the door and handing the box over was not social distancing .
Done now, I will forget about it ,but I can’t see me eating all that sugar.
But it was still a very kind gesture, and I appreciate that very much.
Viktoria.
PS.
Ruskie your post came in whilst I was typing mine,There is a card in the box,
With phone with details.
I am not sure if it was delivered or picked up by my neighbour .
The cafe etc is not far away and is in a public building run by the Council
so there will be regulations etc.
Thanks for your info too.
It did feel cool.
Will try to ring in the morning.
Stuff is in the fridge in containers now.
