Hi all,

For the past few years I've been trying to research information on my mother's side of the family. In this time I have only found very little information (see below) and am now considering whether to getting a professional genealogist to look into this for me?

John Anderson relation to me; great grandfather
  • Son of George Weir Anderson
  • Married Sarah Nimmer Hood Stewart 05/10/1939 in the District of Blythswood, Glasgow. He was 27 years old at the time. John's profession was listed as 'Leading Aircraftsmen, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as 'Royal Air Force Station, Montrose'
  • On 10/09/1944 John and Sarah had a baby who they named Doreen, at the time John's occupation was listed as 'Sergeant, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as "169 Shamrock Street, Glasgow"
George Weir Anderson relation to me; great great grandfather

  • George W Anderson and Jean Weir married 27/10/1910 in Blythswood, Glasgow. George was 21, the son of John and Margaret.
    Possibly born 15/06/1889 Scotland

relation to me; great grandfather
  • Married Doreen Anderson in East Ham in 1964
  • In the same year they gave birth to a baby girl

Thanks

Terri

In your case I would say no.

Everyone of the ones you listed having a presence in Scotland, you can find their original records at Scotland's People. https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

For example George W who married in 1910 was indeed 21, a spirit salesman and his bride Jane was 19.  It tells you George parents were John a water salesman and Maggie Murray and it says Jane was the daughter of William Weir a dairyman and Mary Ward.  It also tells you this married was by Warrant of Sherriff Substitute http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,227262.msg1202921.html#msg1202921

So for 6 credits you get all this information for 6 credits which is about the price of a coffee as their resident recruiter stationed here keeps professing, but its true.

A Professional Genealogist will charge you a lot more than a cup of coffee.

Don
I have turned off all email notifications, thank you.

The 2 people mentioned in the 1964 marriage may still be alive.
And so shouldn't be named; as per RootsChat "No Living Persons" policy.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Apologies, my grandmother passed away before I was born. I have reason to believe the other person mentioned has also passed away but if its possible to edit my post to remove this name I will do that.

Thank you Don, I will take a look at this when I'm at my computer this afternoon and acquire a few tokens.

I'm particularly interested in John's military career.

Have a lovely day.

I think that's me you are getting at? I've been called a few things in my time :)
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Do as much as you can before.  A cousin of mine paid someone to investigate his great grandparents, in Wales.  He received a very fancy document telling him all about the places, various people of the same name and drawings and photos.  It was quite expensive and a couple of years later we disproved it and found another family that wasn’t mentioned in the document.  They were our ancestors.
James -Victoria, Australia originally from Keynsham, Somerset.
Janes - Keynsham and Bristol area.
Heale/Hale - Keynsham, Somerset
Vincent - Illogan/Redruth, Cornwall.  Moved to Sculcoates, Yorkshire; Grass Valley, California; Timaru, New Zealand and Victoria, Australia.
Williams somewhere in Wales - he kept moving
Ellis - Anglesey
