Can anyone find Henry / Harry on the 1910 census for me please as i’ve had no luck. He doesn’t appear to be still in Wales on the 1911 census so assuming he had already emigrated.

Thanks for looking, it’s all very mysterious, his wife can’t be found here in Wales either.

Inquest does not really give much more info, but does mention a gold watch among his possessions
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-N3CB-C6V1?i=47&cat=471101

A reference to Harry Martin's death in Welsh newspapers (seeking his mother) says that he was from Swansea, had worked in the Pembroke docks, and that his mother (sadly not named other than as Mrs Martin) was in Swansea.  This information was according to a friend of his from Colorado, also originally form Wales

What do you know about Rose Martin nee Griffiths? We might fill in some gaps in the history of Henry by figuring out where she ended up.

Hi jorose, that is really interesting. I had searched both family search and Welsh newspapers and found nothing.

Sadly i’m not sure that this is the right man though the basic details fit with what the family believe. It is actually his wife Rose we are looking for as she cannot be found after the marriage in 1905 and birth of their son in 1906.

Henry - as known - was born in Hook in Pembrokeshire in 1873. He was living at home and a coal miner in 1891, and in 1901 he is in Ebbw Vale with relatives, again a coal miner, possibly having moved there for work. Still in Ebbw Vale and a coal miner on his marriage in 1905.

In 1911 his son is with his grandmother in Hook - about 65 miles away from Swansea. No sign of Rose. Family story is that the grandmother wouldn’t let Rose see the child, though she is known to have ‘walked many miles’ on several occasions to try and see him. A neighbour recalls Rose as looking ‘very young’.

Henry’s death is apparently included on a memorial tombstone in Hook, but given what has been found in the last few days i am reluctant to believe this is the right man, though i have no idea how the family knew he had died.

‘Our’ Henry was married with a wife and son (not single) always a coal miner, one of 10 surviving children (not 2 brothers), and from a village 65 miles from Swansea (no known connection).

Hard to believe there could be another Henry / Harry Martin, aged 41 from Wales though, who died in a mining accident in Colorado.

I’ll pass this info on to the family and see what they think.

Many thanks.

All that was known about Rose was from her marriage certificate - Chepstow register office in 1905 - where she said she was 26, a spinster, father James, a labourer. One of the witnesses was Fanny Griffiths.

Through this info, i have found a very promising looking family from Marloes in Pembrokeshire, about 15 miles from Hook, though this Rose is a good few years younger than declared on her marriage. Though as Henry was 31 she could be making herself older.

Sadly Rose doesn’t appear to be with her widowed father or any of her siblings on the 1911 census.

from https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/archives/death-records

Death Certificates issued after 1908 are not held by the Archives. Please contact Certificates and Vital Records for these records.

which takes you to:
https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/searching-vital-records

which says:
Vital records, including birth, death, adoption, marriage and divorce, are confidential per Colorado state statute (C.R.S. 25-2-117). As a result, Colorado vital records are not public records and therefore not searchable online. Vital records can only be released to those who are eligible. See eligibility and identification criteria.

which takes you to:
https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/vital-records-identification-and-eligibility-documentation-and-requirements

and you want "Eligibility for receipt of death certificates" which is this Google Drive link:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ruhYI8VxffdGjCGP-GAWHGdKFhOhIQrL/view?usp=sharing

and somewhere along the way there are probably instructions on how to obtain it, if you qualify.
