thanks for helping me along, the info i've got is- - Ernest Winfield, 1 of 9 children married Elizabeth Ther- - had 4 children Kathleen Mary, Alice, Arthur and Edna and did live in Harwoth during the 1926 strike. I believe Ernest's father was called Silas Winfield, hope this helps, by the way it seems i've joined good PARTY. ::)

Hi bjd,

Do you think this family could be a match for a start:

1901 Census
RG13/3150
Folio 136 p. 29
Ilkeston, Derbyshire
2 Slade Street

Silas Winfield, head, 37, coal pit banksman, b. Derby Cotmanhay
Eliza, wife, 3(can't read 2nd digit), lace hand, b. Derbyshire Codnor
Arthur, son, 14, grocer's assistant, b. Notts Eastwood
Ernest, son, 13, b. Derby Ilkeston
Alice, dau, 11, b. Ilkeston
Annie, dau, 6, b. Ilkeston
Florence, dau, 3, b. Ilkeston

There may be other possibilities. This is the first one I came across.

Do you think the ages could match? Do the names ring any bells? Let us know and we'll (try to) trace them further back.

As for Elizabeth Thur, the only one I can find at all was born 1879 (=> 10 years older).

Here are her details:
1891:
RG12/2697
Folio 15 p. 24
St Mary, Nottingham

Catherine Therr, head, widow, 50, Lace mender
Kate, dau, 18, lace mender
Clara, dau, 16, lace mender
Annie, dau, 13, lace mender
Charles, son, 10, scholar
Elizabeth, dau, 12, scholar (matches with a birth registration for Elizabeth Ther, march 1879, Radford)
Harry, son, 8, scholar

Everybody born Nottingham.

P.S. There were some more children in 1881. If you look them up at www.ancestry.co.uk , they are indexed as 'Thur'

Hi bjd,

Don't know which family looks good, but here's Elizabeth's in 1871 anyway:

RG10/3502
Folio 76 p. 45
Radford, Nottinghamshire

King Street

Thomas Needham, head, wid, 53, Beerkeeper, b. Radford
Charles Thurr, lodger, mar, 40, Lace maker, b. Lincolnshire Stamford
Catherine do., lodger, 29, b. Radford
Mary A do., lodger, 10, scholar, b. do.
Charlotte do., lodger, 5, scholar, b. do.
Frank do., lodger, 3, scholar, b. do.

Seems Charles has grown younger by ten years! (He's down as 60 in 1881)

And 1861 (seems like Catherine married Charles after Mary A's birth):

RG9/2449
Folio 74 p. 6
Radford, Nottinghamshire

Thomas Needham, head, 43, Lace maker
Mary, wife, 44
Isaac, son, unm, 21, Lace maker
Samuel, son, (age heavily crossed out - my guess is 16), Bobbin (sthg)
Catherine, dau, 19, Lace mender
Thomas, son, 13, scholar
Mary Ann, Granddau, 1mth

Everybody born Radford

And this could be Charles in 1861:
RG9/2449
Folio 17 p. 38
Radford
William Street

Mary Thur, head, wid, 67, Stay (?) Maker, b. Notts Leake
Charles, son, wid, 42, Lace maker, b. Lincs Stamford
Henry, son, unm, 24, Lace maker, b. do.
