The church register (St Martins) says that John was from Thurmaston. But FindMyPast has a transcript that says that the marriage took place in Newtown Linford. They can't both be right, and there's no image for the NL entry, but I wonder if banns were read there? and if so, whether that was where Elizabeth came from? Have you looked through the NL records for any clues? I see there was a William Lickely, the son of Jacob Lickely, baptised and buried there at the turn of 1683/4.

Jacob LICKLY was buried in NL in 1717.

Well well. The NL registers have an Elizabeth LITTLY, daughter of Jacob and Dorothy, bapt in 1689. Maybe yours? What do you think?

Jacob Littly m Dorothy in 1676 -- doesn't give a different surname for Dorothy, but it looks as though she was Jacob's 2nd wife, and there were several children belonging to the two marriages - Jacob, Ann, Diana, Benjamin, Elizabeth, William, Mary.

YES  --- Thank you Annie  --- again if you carefully examine the marriage of John and Eliz .. it does look like Litely   and then when I corrected my tree... Ancestry actually gave me the marriage with that surname..

WELL DONE YOU :)

I wont say it was transcription problems.. because it is a difficult read :)  but days of searching  spent ... still got there in the end .   with a big hello to my 7th G. gran and co :)
