For travel on public transport, they are calling it face covering - rather than mask.

OK, so then I may just be able to pull a scarf over my face?   :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Face coverings not medical masks. Purpose is to lessen the risk of a passenger breathing, coughing or sneezing on other passengers.
It was advised in a press briefing on 11th May. "Public advised to cover faces in enclosed spaces" (Press release 11th May 2020.) "Public urged not to buy medical grade masks  ...  instead make their own at home."  Wearing face coverings by young children or people who may have problems breathing was not recommended.

There are lots of YouTube videos on making masks from scarves, bandanas etc plus patterns if you want to sew them.

Mr Marma had a hospital clinic appointment this morning and the staff approved of his wearing the mask I made him at the weekend :)

It’s my understanding that the paper surgical masks only have about 4 hours use in them before the moisture from your breath affects them.  When you’re out and about it’s amazing how many people you see wearing them then pulling them down for a smoke. Surely this defeats the object.

I’m busy making material ones.  I read somewhere if you could use non woven fabric in them it gives marginally better protection, so I’m attempting to incorporate interfacing so they can be machine washable.

My talented better half found a box of unused handkerchiefs in his drawer and has turned them into face masks for us.

They are washable and reusable and cost us nothing.

I have made a couple out of pillow cases, I generally but remnants to make peg bags but I saw 2 very pretty pillow cases, not really any good to me being odd  but they have come in handy, so I made a couple of masks, easy to make

I hope everyone adheres to the new rules of wearing masks in public, if they don't adhere to these rules they have only themselves to blame, I think people are beginning to become complacent about the situation and not wearing masks, I saw that this week shopping,  my husband still doesn't know if he had the virus diagnosed pneumonia but I don't want him to have it again, so we will stick to the rules and I hope everyone else does
