Thomas Hickson a mariner of Dover's will
« on: Monday 01 June 20 00:04 BST (UK) »
Kia ora

From a cloudy wintry day in Otautahi / Christchurch.
I have worked out as a much as I can of this will, can someone please fill in the gaps.
Anything done will be much appreciated.  Wills are such fabulous things to glean information from.

The last line of part 2 is on part 3.

Clip 2

It was easier to just rattle through and do the whole thing Bronwen, rather than keep moving between screens doing a bit here and there.
Not to take away from your hard work at all!  :)

I’ll let somebodyelse do the Latin.

It looks like Marie might have died. His brother Cripps (if that is indeed his name) Hickson is mentioned again. Surviving executor?

Sterling effort, goldie.

In part three I have the brother as Gibbes in the English and Gibbs in the Latin.

I believe his bequest ends (a minor point):  ...that good Shipp

In the Latin the date is:

Ultimo die mensis Octobris Anno D(omi)ni Millesimo Sexcentesimo quadragesimo
secundo...
[= 31 October 1642]

I believe it states that Mary Richards received the Administration as principal legatee because Gibbs Hickson was absent.  However it appears to say that GH was the executor named, whereas the will names Bennett Stanton as executor.

So don't ink this in until it has been clarified.

Many thanks to you all I will put it altogether and see what is still missing.  After I posted this I found the birth of Gibbs Hickson so that was correct.  I split it into parts because I never seem to be able to get it small enough in bites to post it as one.

Agreed ... 'during the absence of Gibbs Hickson, the executor named in the said will, now being displaced in overseas parts'.

However it appears to say that GH was the executor named, whereas the will names Bennett Stanton as executor.

Agreed. Nor is there is anything in the margin to suggest that Bennett Stanton had died or renounced. A mystery.
