looking for the Grahams of Donemana
« on: Monday 01 June 20 11:39 BST (UK) »
Hi having trouble getting far with this.... My great grandmother was Catherine Graham who according to my mother was born in Donemana. She married Alexander Dinsmore in 1888 in Strabane, Tyrone. In the 1901 and the 1911 census she is report as 40 years old (in BOTH). So I do not know if her birthdate is 1871 or 1861! Her father's name is John and that is all I know..... so cannot even find her birth certificate let alone other family members. Any help appreciated
Linda

It helps if you post links to the information you've already found to save us having to search for the same details and also to post on the correct board (Tyrone)- just click on 'report to moderator' and ask for this thread to be moved there.

Alexander Dinsmore & Catherine Graham marriage gives her father as John Graham, labourer & says full age (21 or older)-

If she was born 1871 then only about 16 years old in 1888.

Catherine Dinsmore in 1901 and 1911-

Have you looked for church records yet? if born before 1864 there will be no birth certificate.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

... My great grandmother was Catherine Graham who according to my mother was born in Donemana ...

A speculative possibility is a couple called John Graham and Martha Divine (and variants like Divin, Diven, Deven) who had a number of children baptised in Dunnamanagh RC parish, starting with a daughter Catherine on 11 December 1859 (top of right page):

I believe the location in the following baptism and civil birth registrations for some of Catherine's younger siblings is the townland of Tirkernaghan (there are other siblings):

- Sarah baptised 15 March 1863 (top of left page):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633028#page/55/mode/1up

- Martha born 29 September 1864:

- Ellen born 25 July 1866:

Tirkernaghan:

What looks like Sarah above (baptised 1863) was still there in 1901 with her husband Patrick:

Martha (born 1864) married a James Murray, here she was in 1901 with mother and uncle in the household:

The mother and uncle with a niece in 1911:
