Death/Burial Wigan between 1861 and 68
« on: Tuesday 02 June 20 16:35 BST (UK) »
I have been looking for a death or burial for Catherine Houghton between late 1859 and early 1868 in Wigan.
James Houghton married Catherine Sinclair 23 Jan 1859, they can be seen on the 1861 census in Wigan RG9/2771 she was born around 1833.
James then a widow, married Elizabeth Sudworth 27 Sep 1868, he was an iron forge labourer and they can be seen living with his parents in 1871 with one daughter. It's been wrongly transcribed as Highton RG10/3884
That narrows Catherine's death down between 1861 and 1868 but I just can't find a record anywhere.
Also I can't find Catherine before her marriage to James, census says she was born in Wigan. Her Father was James Sinclair a coach builder. Many thanks for your ideas.

Is this Catherine on 1861 census - husband named William  ???

Catherine's place of birth is dittoed as Wigan on original - might she have been born in Scotland  :-\

Not sure about this - I can find a marriage in March quarter 1859 in Wigan Registration District -

William Houghton and CAROLINE Sinclair appear on the same page (79)

And LancashireBMD confirm the forename as Caroline - venue = St George, Wigan.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

But the parish register entry, via LancsOPC, show her forename as Catherine.  :-\

Sorry, Ladyhawk - FreeBMD,  LancashireBMD and LancashireOPC all agree on 1859.  The discrepancy seems to be Caroline or Catherine, and the parish register transcription (LancashireOPC) indicates that neither party signed the register, nor did their witnesses.
