I may have this totally wrong, in which case just ignore my ramblings.   i keep coming back to a baptism for an Elsie Maud Rogers and wondering if this could be your Elsie Maud's baptism as the date of birth is the same, the mother is Sarah Anne and the address is almost next door to the Everitt's in 1901, I also can't seem to find a birth for Elsie Maud Rogers.  In 1901 there is an unmarried Edward Rogers (hairdresser) living at 32 Midland Road with his mother and siblings.  Could he be your Elsie's father, with Sarah Anne Ridgeway the mother?

Hello Julie. I am intrigued. You may just have something. It is just too much of a coincidence same christian names, same date of birth, living in the same road, same mothers christian names. Just has to be her. The certificate is going to be interesting. Alan

Here’s the baptism details

Frank William Edward Rogers
Birth date   12 Oct 1911
Baptism date   05 Jul 1912
Denomination   Anglican
Place   Nuneaton, St Mary
Father Edward Rogers
Mother Kate
Residence   50 Abbey St
Father's occupation   Hairdresser

Frank died 1987 - you can search for them on 1939 Register

Census says 1 child born 1 died but I can’t find a birth before Frank  ???

Wonder why they never registered her as Rogers.

Probably because they were not married - will be interesting to see who registered the birth

Edit to add - found this

common occurrence was the illegitimate child. It was implied, though not always the case, that the omission of the father’s name from the certificate suggested illegitimacy.

From 1875 the reputed father HAD to be present at the registration to consent to his name being added.

Well here it is mother Sarah Ann Ridgeway hosiery hand. No father's name given. Born 23, Court, Abbey Street. 18/2/1901 reg. 15/3/1901. Same address as the baptism 17/4/1901. So definitely same person. So well spotted Julie.

Strange she registered her as Ridgway before the baptism and then baptised her Rogers. who's to say who the real father was. Alan
