Help with a parish name
« on: Wednesday 03 June 20 15:18 BST (UK) »
I have someone born about 1820, and his death record, (from South Africa), says he was born in Bandirrin, parish of Keiton, Forfarshire. This was obviously written at a great distance in time and space, so is probably garbled and mis-spelt! I hope someone will recognise these names.
Pay, Kent
Codham/Coltham, Kent
Kent, Felton, Essex
Staples, Wiltshire

This may sound slightly similar:

Stretching it a bit, but there is a place called Baldinny:

Good find - Can you locate it on a map? (I can't make much sense of the description)

OS map showing Bandirran

https://www.genuki.org.uk/node/159816/countymap  sorry, not showing the map I wanted, still searching..

My brother used to live very near there and I've been up Bandirran Hill many times. Didn't know it was in Kettins though, would have thought it was Collace.

That looks to be the one Kay. Also mentions "detatched" as per the description.
