Hi Louisa, thanks for your reply, I have tried looking into more info on the sons but I am constantly hitting brick walls, all your replies have made me completely re look at this as maybe the marriage is incorrect. I'm going to start a fresh and see where it leads me. I had to leave it last night a I'd spent hours looking at it and it was driving me crazy!  ???

Have you any info on the 2 sons?

1881
Possible George listed as George Parts, corrected to Partis, living Saville Row

I don't know if it's any use but looking for John Richard Partis (born 1843) I found that he joined the Royal Navy (Volunteered 1861) for 10 years. After his discharge from the Navy he joined the Met police force from 1877 - 1894. Relevant census show these 2 occupations (except 1871 census when I believe he was in India with the Navy)

This John Richard Partis was buried 5 July 1910 Waltham Forest (Queens Rd Cemetery). His wife Emma died 1908.

His father, John Waldron Partis, was buried 7 August 1871 Camden. He died before his wife Mary.

Good luck with your research

There is a baptism for John (no middle name) PARTIS 1813, Morpeth, parents Richard (a butcher) and Ann.
transcript available on Free Reg, image from the BTs is on Family Search (you need to be signed in to see it- an account is free)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6SCW-M7Y?i=242&wc=9K53-FMS%3A13617901%2C25399001%2C25399002&cc=1309819

The only marriage in Free BMD for a John PARTIS in 1839 is in Newington, but the image is available on Ancestry and shows he married a Martha Mepham and his father was John PARTIS, a shipwright.

So one or the other of the above is not the man you are looking for. Without knowing your starting point (backwards from a later generation or forwards from perhaps a sibling you have traced back) its difficult to look for alternates.

Which record are you sure about and what is the basis for you to be sure?

I'd suggest you review your records and IF its the baptism you are sure about, maybe post on the Northumberland board rather than this one to get county specific help.

Hi Boo,

Thanks for your help, the baptism record you mentioned below for John Partis 1813 in Morpeth is the one I have. I got his middle name of Richard from his son's marriage record. The marriage you refer to in Newington to Martha Mepham is also what I have seen but on Findmypast it also states an option of Mary Clark.

I can not find anywhere the mothers maiden name on the two boys (William and George) baptism or births, only 'Mary Partis' on the 1871 census, which lead me to a marriage of John Partis and Mary Clark 1839.

So I'm still at a loss, next step I think is to order the boys birth certificates to see if it mentions Mary. Driving me mad! Jade
