Thomas SIMMILL b 1820 m Susan?
« on: Thursday 04 June 20 04:22 BST (UK) »
Thomas Simmill/Simel and variants.

He was baptised at Gnosall, Staffordshire, 8 Oct 1820 son of Thomas & Harriott of Bromstead (at several of his sibling’s baptisms)

I believe in 1841 he is  Thomas SIMMAL age 21 Brewood, Staffs. 973/5A/9/9 an Ag Lab

1851 146/2019/119/43

Thomas SIMMILL 31 a labourer, Horsefair, Wolverhampton a labourer   with a wife Susan 23 a dressmaker b Edgebaston, Warwickshire.
Thomas’ birthplace transcribed on Ancestry as Bromstone Grionell,   ::) Staffordshire

I cannot find a marriage
Where did they go after this?

———————————————————

There are a series of census entries from 1851 through to 1901 for another Thomas who is also the son of a Thomas , who cannot be the same man as the one in Wolverhampton because
* he appears in 2 places in the same census year
* He is born Church Aston  which while close to Gnosall and even closer to Bromstead, there is no other activity of his immediate family in Church Aston. All his siblings were baptised at Gnosall and he was 16 when the youngest one was baptised.
*The Wolverhampton entry shows he does know his birth place
*I have found a baptism at Church Aston for Thomas SIMIL son of Thos. & Abigail of Church Aston.  (Thomas in Shifnal in 1871 has a daughter "Abergail")

Can anyone find anything more on Thomas of Bromstead/Gnosall and his ‘wife’ Susan.

Many thanks

The 1851, as mentioned: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGGW-VQY

I can’t see a suitable marriage.

Don’t suppose there are any children/step-children on the next page?

Following on from help with another SIMMILL that was found to be buried under SIMMONS
I thought I would check for Thomas with that name.

I have found in Wolverhampton in 1871

Thomas SIMMONS 50 Bricklayers Lab, b Gnosall
Martha wife 40 b Wolverhampton
Emma 3 b Wolverhampton
Mary 3 b Wolverhampton

looking for the births of twins I have found

SIMMIL Emma 1868 M qtr Wolverhampton 06B 472 MMN HOLLES
SIMMIL Mary 1868 M qtr Wolverhampton 06B 472 MMN HOLLES

I think this must be them in 1881

Thomas SIMMONS 62 Ag Lab b Bromston, Staffs
Patience 52 b Wolverhampton
Emma 13 b Wolverhampton. Subject to Fits

then a burial in Wolverhampton with this note of FindaGrave

SIMMEL Emma 19 years 23 Oct 1887 Union workhouse All Saints Daughter of Thomas Labourer

so back tracking found

SIMMILL Mary 3 years 2 Nov 1871 Dudley Road St.John Daughter of Thomas Labourer

(Dudley Road is where the SIMMONS are in both 1871 and 1881)

Thomas and Patience are together still in 1891
Is this his death?

SIMMONS Thomas 76 years 26 Feb 1897 Union workhouse All Saints Pauper

and perhaps Patience, though age is wrong

SIMMONS Patience 56years 30 Apr 1896 Union workhouse All Saints Pauper

What happened to Martha & Susan?
Did he actually marry any of them?
Where is he in 1861?

Surname transcribed as SIMRIK on FindMyPast  and SIMKIK on Ancestry.
I can see why!
