Deep joy, Trystan    ;D ;D ;D

I found a single bag of plain flour in my local store this week; I hadn't seen any for at least the past three months.  The resulting lemon drizzle cake barely cooled before it was all gone - I blame the children.......

I’ve M & S Food Halls a good source of flour & eggs although mixed spice has been a problem.  We’ve been keeping my mums neighbour who is shielding well stocked.  Baking is her hobby and she’s been able to gift her baking to the young family opposite her who’ve been doing all her gardening. I think she’s introduced a new generation to bread pudding.

Our village shop has had all types of flour and yeast all the way through - straight from the water-mill up the road.

We've had no problem ordering flour online from Shipton's.

Yeast was a problem a while back, but then we started our own sourdough starter, - and have been using it ever since!

We haven't had shop brought bread since the beginning of March now.

Romilly:-)

We had a flour delivery the other day (Cauldwells Mill, Derbyshire). 24.5 kilos - we had to open the box at the door and bring it in a bag at a time!

Coffee beans come regularly from Northern Tea Merchants in Chesterfield. It’s difficult to imagine going back to “real” shopping any time soon!

Our Waitrose had a whole shelf full of flour, hooray.  ☹️☹️ It was all and every variety of bread flour, not one bag of SR or plain, even the bakery opposite were out.  Goodness knows how many cakes and buns have been made and consumed in our village.

Unfortunately many bought with out a clue how to use it.  I saw someone asking how to apply the icing/filling on a packet mix cake before she baked it.  A lot is going to sit in cupboards until it ends in the bin.
