Would like to find parents of Charles Watson of Bowden (1752-1820). He was married to an Ann Bailey (1746-1811) in July, 1772, and they had a son, Walter, born 1772 in Bowden. Thanks in advance for any information.

There is a marriage licence for Charles Watson and Ann Bayley. She is from Bowden -- he is from Manchester - and a Linen Draper. (at the time of marriage)

So maybe he was actually born in Manchester.

They may also have had a son James in 1780 -- and at that time were of Hale.

Thank you, Pennines. I'm not so sure about James being the son of this Charles, but, yes, Charles was possibly from Manchester as that was his place of residence at the time of his marriage. The closest I can find is a birth in Stretford in 1748, so may be the age at marriage is wrong. Will continue to investigate the best I can. Cheers.

Just to say the baptism of 'James' Watson did take place at 'Bowdon' - parents Charles and Ann of Hale.

On the marriage licence the age of Charles is simply given as 21 years and upwards, which is a 'normal' entry for anyone supposedly of full age and above. Not very helpful really in determining his actual age.
